Valeria Popa

My name is Valeria, I’m living in Caminul Felix for 10 years now. Before I came here, I was living in a village with the other 6 brothers and sisters of mine. I was the oldest girl in the family, but I have an older brother who lived with my grandparents. Because my parents were almost all the time drunk and all of their money they spent on the drinks and cigarettes, I had to take care of my brothers and sisters. The only money I had were those we received as “pocket money” from the state and I tried to buy some food for us, but it was not much. I didn’t go to school just once in a while, because I had to take care of my baby brother – who was just few months old. So I wasn’t only their sister I was their mom too. We hardly saw or spoke with our parents, because they went early in the morning and came back late at night. It was a very cold night, outside was snowing, inside was freezing also, and during that night a tragedy happened: our baby brother died freezing. After that night everything was changed.

Somebody came to pick up us and bring us to Caminul Felix: since that moment I started to live like a normal child who goes to school every day, and living his life without burdens. Here I have got a new family who teach me how to love, and I received instead their love, a love I didn’t experience it before. We started to go to the church, another new thing for us, and through my parents I begin to know Jesus and to see how amazing is to see Him work in our lives. That’s why I don’t let a day to pass without thank Him for what He gave me. Also, I started to make new friends- I used to be distant and shy. I thank Him for He’s taking care of me every day.

During the summer of 2005 I began to learn and to work as a hairdresser. I like it very much and with God’s help I would like to practice it in future.

I’m so grateful to God because He takes care of me and He gave me a family!
